Book Review: The Swap

Well, this one was a DOOZY!

Teenager Low is instantly obsessed with the newbie to town, Instagram star Freya. She owns a pottery studio and Low starts taking classes with her, pulled in deeper and deeper towards her admiration/love/obsession, even going so far as to spy on gorgeous Freya and her former pro athlete husband at night. Although things are going well for Freya and Max, it’s one drug-induced night with their friends in particular that proves nothing will ever be the same.

I was drawn to the idea of this one right away, intrigued by the premise and pulled in by the switching viewpoints. I felt like each person had something to hide, and I was right. You constantly feel like the other shoe is about to drop and the twists and turns are highly unexpected. I read this one quickly and did not end up guessing how it all ended, which I LOVE when authors are able to do that.

Although each character ended up having a variety of skeletons in their closet, and some less than desirable traits, I also enjoyed the somewhat “character study” that occurred throughout the book, slowly piecing together the person’s backstory that made them act the way they did. It was interesting and disturbing all wrapped into one. Still not sure how I feel about the ending 🤔.

If you are looking for a book that’s a guilty pleasure and escape from reality for a few hours, be sure to check out The Swap.
